About The Schmidt

is a Hamburg-based multimedia artist, choreographer, and community outrecher, known for a dynamic blend of dance, photography, and film that explores queer identity. Growing up between Germany and Jamaica, Schmidt’s cultural experiences shaped their artistry, creating a intersactional approach to their art.

After completing a B.A. at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts in 2014, they joined the Bundesjugendballett and Hamburg Ballet, performing until 2019.

As the “mother” of “the House of Brownies,” Schmidt fosters queer performance art, diversity, and representation in the arts. Their works investigate identity and aesthetics, pushing boundaries of movement and gender expression. Supported by the Ferdinand Möller Foundation in 2021 and granted the “Nachwuchsförderung” grant for 2024/25, they were also invited to serve on the jury for inclusive projects by the Behörde für Medien und Kultur, furthering their impact on Germany’s art scene.
