About Tash
Tash Manzungu, born in 1991 in Zimbabwe, is a multifaceted artist whose passion for the performing arts has defined her career. From an early age, Tash was captivated by the power of storytelling and the impact of performance, leading her to pursue a formal education in acting.
In 2016, she completed her Bachelor in Acting at Freie Schauspielschule (Lederer) in Hamburg, Germany. This foundational experience equipped her with the skills and confidence to thrive in the vibrant theater scene. Tash has since appeared in a variety of productions, including fairytales like "Hänsel and Gretel" at the Ernst Deutsch Theatre, where she brought classic stories to life with her dynamic performances. She also played the supporting role of Junior in "Die Ärztin", an adaptation of proffessor Bernhadi by Robert Icke.
Tash's commitment to education and social awareness shines through in her work with educative plays. She toured with "Being There," a partnership with TUSCH , participating in various educational festivals aimed at engaging young audiences in meaningful dialogue.
A talented singer and songwriter, Tash has released several music albums, including "Atlas" and "Compass," and singles such as "Woman," a poignant reflection on femicide. Most recently, she was the lead soloist of "Chor Zu Welt" at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, a show that brought together 15 countries in a choir exploring the traditional acapella music of southern Africa and the Bantu languages of Ndebele and Xhosa. Her music not only showcases her artistic abilities but also serves as a platform for her activism, as she uses her artistry to raise awareness about pressing social issues.
Additionally, Tash has showcased her versatility in musicals, including a notable performance in "Tim liebt Tina" at the Bad Ems Theatre. As an artivist, she seamlessly blends her artistic talents with her commitment to activism, using her voice and creative expression to advocate for change.
In her ongoing exploration of the performing arts, Tash has ventured into writing and directing. She has co-written performance pieces, such as "Queerdom," presented at Kampnagel. Her production "Embrace your Crown" was nominated for Faust in 2022, demonstrating her ability to bridge various forms of art and engage with contemporary issues.
Through her diverse body of work, Tash Manzungu continues to inspire others, embodying the power of art as a catalyst for social transformation and dialogue.
